Silly

Tee: Target Shorts: Old Navy Cardigan: Target, thrifted new Scarf: Gift Flats: Payless

Last week, we finally started to welcome new students to campus for my job in orientation.  I was decked out in our school colors all day from Wednesday-Friday, and it feels good to be in "real people clothes."  While I still will be sporting my school polos on and off all summer, I get to wear my regular clothes, too!

I start two of my summer classes today, too.  It's going to be a warm day today, but I'm sure my classroom will be cold...hence the cardigan and scarf.  I'm okay with that, since we've had really abnormally chilly days for most of the summer so far.  As much as I hate shorts, I'm happy to be wearing them out of necessity :)

I was running out of time to take pictures before needing to leave for work, so I had Kevin come outside and snap a few shots.  He said, "Now you need to do a silly shot!  When I see you taking pictures, you always need to do a silly one!" and I came up with this pose.  He also told me that I had to post it, because he would check :)  Gotta love him.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

AWKWARD.

Dress: Old Navy Tights: Target Boots: Target Scarf: Gift from a friend

Back in middle school and high school, the word "awkward" was horribly overused.  Everything was "awkward" - grades on tests, seating patterns at lunch, interactions between friends...you name it, we teenagers called it "awkward" (same goes for "epic" and "golden").  At the end of high school, I realized how ridiculous it was that we called everything "awkward," and vowed to stop saying the word myself...unless a situation truly was awkward.

"Awkward" is how I would describe myself in front of a camera when someone else is watching.  I usually try to take my pictures when Kevin is showering, still sleeping, or has already left for work, because if he's around, I just can't take a decent picture.  I feel so uncomfortable so I pose weird and make ugly faces and laugh uncontrollably.  It's pretty dumb.  This morning, Kevin was eating breakfast and was 20 feet to my left while I took pictures.  This is what most of the pictures looked like, as I said to him, "STOP LOOKING AT ME!":

Yep, that's awkward.

Five Days, Five Ways: Casual Friday

It's the last day of Whitney and Fran's Five Days, Five Ways link up!  Today's challenge is Casual Friday.  While you've seen many of my winter casual looks, I wanted to finally put together some springy outfits :)  Since I often dress a little casual on the blog, I wanted to interpret "casual Friday" as weekend wear.  These outfits are things you could expect to see me in on the weekends this spring and summer.

Tee: Old Navy Skirt: Old Navy Flats: Target (thrifted, NWT)

I love these knit skirts from Old Navy - they're comfortable and versatile...and the price is right!  I bought this skirt over the winter, and I've been dying to wear it without tights.  I have big plans for this skirt over the course of the next few months...chambray shirt, tees, with my denim jacket...it's going to be much loved!

Tee: Target Shorts: Old Navy Scarf: Gift from a friend Sandals: Born via DSW

These shorts are my go-to in the summer.  They're so comfortable and they go with so much.  I love wearing scarves all year round, and I knew I had to include a casual outfit with a scarf.

Dress: Old Navy Cardigan: Target Necklace: From Mom Sandals: Target

One thing I love about maxi dresses is that they look really nice, but you feel like you're wearing pajamas.  This outfit might look less casual, but I would totally wear this on a weekend, shopping with a friend, out to lunch, even to the grocery store!

Dress: Old Navy Flats: Payless

Like the previous outfit, I like to be able to just throw on a dress and some comfortable flats or sandals and go.  It's incredibly easy, but it still looks pretty cute!  I love the color of this dress - so bright and warm!

Shirt: Thrifted American Eagle Jeans: NY&C Shoes: TOMS

Yes, this is a ridiculous pose, but going through my pictures, I BORE MYSELF looking at my like two poses I ever do.  This is how I feel about the weekend...excited...and sassy...??  Whatever.  I love wearing cuffed jeans and a casual button up shirt on weekends.  I have a few shirts that are similar to this, and they get tons of wear over the spring and summer seasons.  I wear them with skirts, jeans, shorts, you name it.

I'm so glad you stuck with me this week with all my posts for Five Days, Five Ways!  I'm hoping to do some kind of little recap or something in the next day or two about it, so stay tuned, friends!

Perfect Pants

Tank: Old Navy Cardigan: Target Pants: NY&C Scarf: Gift Flats: Payless

I've had the last two days off of work, so I've taken my pictures right around 10:00 am, and I am LOVING the lighting!  So much better than when I take my pictures at 7:00 am, like I normally do.  I'm hoping that as the days get longer, I'll get this great lighting earlier in the day :)

Today and tomorrow, I'm helping interview candidates for next year's class of the graduate program I'm in.  I am super excited to meet all the prospective candidates, and I'll get to spend lots of time with some of my grad school friends who are also helping out.

I am totally in love with these black skinny jeans from New York & Company.  They are, without a doubt, my favorite article of clothing.  I can't believe I went this long without owning a pair!  I have to remind myself that I can't wear them every day.  When I go shopping, every top I find, I ask myself, "Can I wear this with my black pants?"  Plus, they're incredibly comfortable and they hold their shape well, so I can get multiple wears in before washing them.  On top of that, they fit me perfectly, which is usually such a struggle.  I'm thicker in the waist but have thin legs (comparatively) and not very wide hips.  Usually, pants that fit in the hips and legs are way too tight in the waist, and pants that fit in the waist are baggy and frumpy in the hips and legs.  These pants, however, are PERFECT.  They also have a little bit of a higher rise, which I really like as well.  They don't make me look like a snowman, which is much appreciated.

What's the piece of clothing that you can't stop wearing?
