Hello all!
I can't believe it's been a month since I changed my blog's name and URL to brynnash! If you haven't already changed the URL in your reader, please do! You can now find me at brynnash.blogspot.com.
Thanks!
Hope you're all having a great summer! :)

New Blog URL
Hello everyone! I just wanted to write another friendly reminder that my blog has been moved to brynnash.blogspot.com. If you still want to follow along, I would love to have you add my new URL to your reader :) I'm still doing the 30x30...yesterday's post can be seen here!!

Fourteen + New Blog URL!
Top: Target Skirt: Target Cardigan: TJMaxx Flats: Payless Necklace: Gift
The last time I wore my nude flats, Rooney decided they looked like a good chew toy. I was so bummed, and immediately went online to reorder another pair. They arrived just this week, so I'm really happy to be wearing them again. I was down a pair of shoes in my 30x30! Yikes!
I wanted to alert you all that I'm changing the name of my blog to brynnash. The URL will be changing to brynnash.blogspot.com as well. I just wanted to let you know to change my URL in your reader to my new address. I'm making the change for a few reasons. First, "brynnash" has been my email account for about 8 years now, and has been my username for many things. It feels like "me" and I'm really attached to it. When I first started blogging here, "brynnash" was already taken (it was my old college blog, had two posts, and I couldn't figure out how to access it again). I spent a lot of time today recovering old email addresses and freeing up the URL so that I could have it for this blog. I never felt attached to "The Original Brynn" and it has always bothered me that "brynnash" is not my blog's name. So, now that it's available, I'm making the switch!!
If you'd like to keep following along with my blog, please add brynnash.blogspot.com to whatever reader you use, and feel free to follow me on Google Friend Connect at my new site as well. Thank you!
If anything funky is happening on the new site, please let me know as well - I would love to hear from you!

I mentioned that my family was coming over last night to see Spamalot with Kevin and me, and it was SO good. Seriously, if you haven't seen that show and enjoy British humor, it is fantastic. It was a great way to kick off our weekend!

Tonight, my parents and brother are driving down to our place for dinner and to see our university's production of Spamalot! I'm so excited - I love musical theater, and Spamalot is so hilarious! Kevin and my mom haven't seen it before, and I can't wait to get their read on the show. Plus, our university's theater department is awesome. They do more shows in a school year than any other school in the country!
I hope you all have a great weekend! Who's doing something exciting?

Oops, sorry for yet another janky photo. I took this after a day full of work and class, so my pants are wrinkled, my hair looks pretty bad, and I'm sporting some super cute bags under my eyes. I wanted to make sure I got a post up for the 30x30, though!
Have you guys heard of this app called Helium Booth? Maybe I'm super late to the party, but my friend Megan just showed it to me and I'm absolutely hooked. Basically, the app takes videos, and it makes you sound like you've inhaled a ton of helium (mouse mode) or it lowers your voice in an opposite way (bear mode). I can't stop taking these videos and sending them to my friends and family or just laughing until I cry. Here are a few of my favorites:
Me singing "No Scrubs"
My brother singing "Blue Moon"
My response to a video my cousin sent me - my ridiculous giggle!
And...since I'm 6 years old at heart, a story I told Kevin involving farts.

Oof, sorry about the crappy iPhone photo and cheesy grin, you guys! My regular camera was being super funky today and not letting me upload any photos, so you're stuck with the old iPhone...
I did not have to work or go to class this morning, so I was able to sleep in a little bit (8:00! Woooo!) and work on some homework before hitting the gym. Ten minutes into my workout, an episode of What Not to Wear came on...so instead of spending the 30 minutes I intended to on the treadmill, I stayed on for the whole episode...I burned 700 calories, though, so that was awesome! I just love What Not to Wear, and I'm so sad it's going off the air! I really hope that TLC keeps playing it in syndication, because it's so entertaining. I've learned a lot about how to dress my body through the show as well, and how to become more confident in my skin. Plus, it's shows like this (and trashy reality TV) that make my workouts go super fast!! Please tell me I'm not the only one who watches trashy reality TV on the treadmill...

You guys, I'm not sure what the deal is, but the mosquitos and gnats where we live are horrible right now. Seriously, they are everywhere. Every time I walk outside I get at least one bite, and I've inhaled so many and gotten so many stuck between my glasses and my eyeballs that I could scream. They buzz in my ears incessantly. This morning, walking to my car, I had one trapped in my hair. ICK. They even are coming inside - I kill at least one mosquito each day in our apartment, and there was one in my office at work today when I was trying to get things done. A couple of nights ago, there was a mosquito in our bed...I only noticed it when I woke up with mosquito bites all over my toes. At that point, they don't even itch anymore...they just hurt.
Is it just us, or are any of you experiencing a disgustingly high amount of mosquitos and gnats where you live right now? I mean, we usually have a boatload of them (people in MN say that the mosquito is our state bird), but it is abnormally gross right now.

Happy Monday!
Today is the first day of my last summer class, and I'm actually really excited about it. My professor wrote the textbook that we're using, and he also happens to be my advisor and favorite professor, so it will be a great class! I also start back up with working again after a lovely week off, and while I'm bummed that my break is up, I'm really excited to see the staff I work with again. Supervising 18 college students is a challenge sometimes, but they make me laugh so much and I love watching them grow as leaders.
Today's outfit, believe it or not, is a little bit of a stretch for me. This skirt has no purple in it, so to be wearing a purple tee with it feels weird! I usually dress so literally and matchy. Part of what I wanted to get out of this challenge, however, is pushing myself to dress outside of my comfort zone a little bit, and I'm taking little baby steps along the way.

Another simple outfit for me! It's super hot outside today and I wanted something that would keep me cool and comfortable. We cleaned our apartment all morning so things are clean and tidy before my last summer class starts tomorrow, ran a few errands, and had a lunch date at Panera (Caesar salad = yum!). It was a great Sunday! I'm relaxing this afternoon watching Gilmore Girls while I get my school stuff organized, catch up on blogs, etc.
This week of vacation has been awesome - I'm back into the swing of things tomorrow!!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as well!

Some of my latest reflections:
Ultimately, I am really happy with who I am. I am a good person who does the right thing, cares for others, but also places a lot of importance on caring for myself. I'm smart, friendly, and talented. I have a compassionate heart, particularly for children and animals.
The way that I had always pictured my life is not really what I want anymore. I want more from life - I want purpose and excitement and meaningful relationships. I won't be content to just keep on going through the motions.
I want to start living more for me, and not somebody else. My life is my life and as long as I keep on doing the right thing and treating others well, I am capable of making my own decisions. I am lucky to have a partner who feels similarly. We both make sacrifices so that each other can be happy as individuals and as a united couple.
I'm not 100% sure what is in the future for me, but I'm going to do my absolute best to make intentional decisions so I don't get bored with my safe, expected life.

We're back from Kevin's folks' house, and we had such a great time! Yesterday, we spent the afternoon in the pool, playing games, and watching all of our dogs play together in the big backyard. We played a lot of badminton in the evening after a delicious grill out dinner and trip to the dog park, and then went to go see fireworks all together. Today, we enjoyed more puppy playtime, a family walk with all the dogs (we love our dogs, can you tell??), and a movie. It was so much fun, and we're back home now with two really, really sleepy pups :)

Happy Independence Day, to all of you who celebrate! We are headed to Kevin's parent's house today for swimming, eating, and all-around merriment, and will be there through tomorrow, so I'll be "offline." I will still be wearing my 30x30 items and I'll take a picture of my outfit, but I may not blog it until the weekend. Time for celebration!!

Yesterday, Fran had an interesting discussion on her blog about dressing for yourself vs. dressing for others (in particular your partner). Almost 100% of the time, I dress for myself, but today, I dressed for Kevin. He has said before that he loves seeing me in purple, and I know he about dies whenever I wear anything that shows off my legs, so I thought this purple dress was the perfect way to make him smile on his birthday. He also tells me all the time that I don't need to wear makeup to look beautiful, so I went really simple today with just mascara. I still feel like me and am dressing true to myself, but this outfit is one that he really likes, too :)

Today's outfit is perfect for finishing my final paper, relaxing with my dogs, and going to play trivia at a local restaurant tonight. I am soaking in all of this free time!
So I've written about my body struggles before...and things really haven't gotten easier for me. I still feel uncomfortable in my body and although I've been trying hard to lose (or at least maintain) weight, I have gained 7-8 lbs since January, putting me at my highest weight ever. GROSS. I went to the doctor yesterday for a check up, and finally have a reason for this! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 2.5 years ago, and after about a year of tweaking, I had found a dosage of medication that put my thyroid levels back within a normal range. Yesterday, though, my doctor told me that my levels had shot through the roof, which explains why I've been gaining weight, feeling depressed, and been much more tired than usual. I'm starting a higher dosage of my medication today and hoping that it will make losing weight easier for me, and make me feel better in general. Keeping my fingers crossed that things turn around for me soon!!

It's here! The 30x30 that Inge and I are taking on together is finally here! I have been wanting to do this for a while, and it feels great to have a friend alongside me. Be sure to check out Inge's blog as well to follow along with her.
I love this skirt, but I feel like pencil skirts are often not flattering on my body, which makes them hard to style sometimes. My chambray shirt seemed to be a good fit, since it's a little looser and forgiving, but just the shirt and skirt together made me look a little boxy and plain. I tried tucking in my shirt, but it was bunchy and looked weird. Instead, I tried to define my waist a little more by adding a belt - it almost adds a peplum kind of silhouette...and I like it! I have always loved the look of a skinny belt around the waist on other people, but I'm kind of squishy and feel like it emphasizes that. However, I'm trying hard to step outside of my comfort zone and accept my body the way it is, so here you have it!
I hope you all had a great weekend! I finished two summer classes on Friday, so I was able to relax and "play" guilt-free all weekend long! It felt awesome. I caught up on blogs, watched Monsters Inc and then went to the theater to see Monsters University, and had time to cook some food instead of just grabbing whatever was in my fridge. This week is going to be awesome, with hardly any obligations. I've needed this break for a while, and I'm super happy to be getting it!!

Budgeting Bloggers: June
It's time to link up with the budgeting bloggers again! Here is the damage for the month:
- Purple dress: Old Navy, $10
- Black dress: Target, thrifted new, $5
- Floral dress: Target, thrifted new, $5
- Striped dress: Target, thrifted new, $5
- Brown sweater: Old Navy, $3
- Striped tee: Old Navy, $5
- Striped sweater: Old Navy, $8
- Floral blouse: Target, thrifted new, $4
- Teal wedges: Target, thrifted new, $4
- Green flats: Target, thrifted new, $4
- Orange flats: Target, thrifted new, $4
- Black sandals: Target, originally $10 but free with gift card
- Chambray shirt: Old Navy, $12
- Jeans: Old Navy, $19, but $9 with rewards
- Sandals: Old Navy, originally $10 but free with Super Cash
My grand total for June is $78. I originally had just planned to get the Goodwill items (so many awesome things, right?!). However, I wound up having some Super Cash at Old Navy so I picked up a few things. Many of them satisfy some holes in my closet (black/white striped tee, light chambray shirt, nude sandals), and I wound up picking up the jeans because my only other pair of skinny jeans shrunk and are now way too short for me to wear. I also picked up a new pair of black sandals at Target since my old black sandals were several years old and getting uncomfortable, worn, and stretched out. I have a ton of items that I am ready to take to Plato's Closet and/or Goodwill, so hopefully I'll add a little bit of money back into my pocket :)
I haven't worn many of these things yet, but many of them will be included in my 30x30 items, so you'll see them soon!
How did you do this month?
I'm linking up with Franish and the other budgeting bloggers! Check out everyone else linking up and see how they did in June.

What I've Been Wearing Lately + My 30 Items!
Oh my goodness, you guys! I just finished two of my summer classes, before my final summer class begins July 8. I have been swamped this week with final exams, papers, group projects, and presentations. I have one more big paper due this Wednesday, but other than that, I'm freeee! I'm so happy - I don't know if I've been this busy before. 14 hours on campus between class and work leaves for very little time for the things I do to decompress, like blogging and interacting with you all! So I apologize for my silence this week, too. With all the work I've been doing lately (I work in college orientation), I haven't had exciting outfits either. This is what I look like pretty much every day, with a slight variation in shoes and bottoms:
(Excuse my dirty mirror...)
Not exactly blog-worthy, right? Oh well. My job isn't glamorous, but it's super fun!
So Inge and myself are doing our very first 30x30 challenge together, starting on Monday! I'm so, so excited about it, and wanted to show you all what my 30 items are before I get started with outfits on Monday. Here they are!

Crazy Weather + 30x30!!
Dress: Target, thrifted new Blazer: Gap Sandals: Old Navy
Happy Monday! What a weekend! We were hit hard with storms in Minnesota this weekend. Up in the Twin Cities, where my family lives, there were trees down all over the place, and some people are still out of power (from Friday evening!). A huge tree fell on my grandpa's house, but thankfully, he wasn't home when it happened and the tree didn't fall through the roof. An hour southwest, which is where I live, we didn't have as much damage, but we did have some ginormous hail. Seriously, there was one chunk outside our door that was bigger than a ping pong ball!
I went to the wedding of a very good family friend this weekend. It's her second marriage - her husband died back in 2005. I used to nanny her daughters, who are now 18 and 21, and are like my little sisters, and it was so much fun to see them again. The wedding was held at their friend's house: a 100-year-old mansion with a carriage house and gorgeous gardens. It was so beautiful! Unfortunately, the house was out of power due to the storms the night before, but the candlelit wedding was still so pretty. I really love weddings :)
I'm super excited to share with you that Inge and I are going to be undertaking the 30 for 30 remix challenge that Kendi started several years ago (essentially, you pick out 30 items of clothing and wear them for 30 days)! We've both been considering it for a while, and decided we'd just go for it :) We'll be starting July 1, and we want to encourage you all to join us if you're interested - just be sure to tell us that you want to join along. I'll be posting my 30 items later this week, so stay tuned!
I hope you all had a great weekend!

It's a great way to spread the blog love :)
Here are my 5 random things:
1. I'm a really good speller. When I was in 5th grade, I won our school district's spelling bee and went onto the regional spelling bee. I thought I was really cool at the time (also because I was on the 5th grade math team and we won 1st place in a regional competition. I'm a nerd, okay?). Just this week, someone asked me how to spell "pterodactyl," and everyone was impressed/weirded out that I knew how to spell it.
2. My favorite place to sing is and always has been in the bathroom (although stairwells and parking garages are also wonderful). When I was little (like 3 years old), I would refuse to get out of the bathroom stall until I was done singing every verse and chorus of the song. In college, I would purposefully walk to a different floor in my residence hall to shower because there weren't many people who lived on that floor and their bathroom was always empty and had awesome acoustics. I would sing, sing, sing in that bathroom every day. To this day, I still start every morning by singing in the shower and then having a dance party for one while I'm getting ready. It wakes me up and puts me in a great mood!
3. I absolutely love Harry Potter. Yep, I said it. I think that JK Rowling is an incredible woman and inspiration, and I feel very connected to the series. I feel like I grew up with Harry, Hermione, and Ron, and the books were such important pieces of my childhood and adolescence. Hermione was an excellent role model for me, as a smart, high-achieving, confident young woman, which was so crucial in a society in which these traits are not necessarily valued for women.
4. On a somewhat related note, I'm a proud feminist. I am passionate about equal rights for women. The tattoo on my foot is the female symbol, and six months after getting it, I'm still as in love with it as I was the day I got it. I'm also a huge advocate for equal rights for LGBT individuals. Some of my best friends growing up were gay males, and I have a couple of friends who are transgender. Their experiences in life are heartbreaking, but also inspirational. I want to get another tattoo of an equal sign to show that I am committed to equality for all. (I don't like to get political/preachy on my blog, but this is one of the things in life that I am SUPER passionate about - along with dog rescue and proper sex education - and it directs my life every day.)
5. I really love stupid and funny YouTube videos. I'm currently obsessed with Miranda Sings (this video is one of my all-time favorites of hers), but I also love this video, this video, and this video (all are oldies but goodies). They never fail to make me laugh and can cure any bad day.
Inge's Questions
1. What's the best thing to come out of blogging, besides meeting new people?
Oooh, that's a great question! I think the best thing about it is that it has helped me to think about purchasing clothing with more intention. I used to see cute things on the sale rack and buy them just because they were cute and affordable instead of thinking about how versatile it would be in my wardrobe or for my current lifestyle. I have gotten so much more thoughtful when shopping, and it is easier for me to leave things at the store, even if they looked good on me and had an affordable price.
2. What trends have you tried that you might not have before you started blogging?
Hmm. I'm not particularly a trendy person, so it's hard to think about. While I have almost always really liked lace, I am not sure I would have had the courage to buy a lace dress if it wasn't for seeing how pretty and versatile they were on other bloggers. And I'm really glad I didn't look back - I love my lace dresses!
3. What popular trend is everyone wearing that you are still hesitant about?
I'm not a fan of tribal prints. As a white woman, I feel like wearing tribal prints is disrespectful to the native populations to which those tribes belong. I don't think that someone's native culture should be "trendy" for others. But maybe that's just me...
4. What's the most exciting thing you have planned for the summer?
Oh, goodness, who knows?! I've been so swamped with class and work lately that I can't even think about what's coming up this summer! I'm not going on any vacations or anything...I think we've already had our exciting moment in adopting our puppy!! :)
5. What was the last movie you saw?
In the movie theater, I saw The Purge. It was pretty ridiculous, to be honest. I love movies that scare me (as long as they're not gory), and The Purge definitely messed with my head a little bit. However, it was definitely not a "good" movie...just entertaining, I suppose. I really want to see Monsters University!!!
Danielle's Questions
1. What is your most embarrassing childhood memory?
When I was in first grade, we had a new student join our class. I wanted to be welcoming to her and be her friend, so during "circle time" in the afternoon on her first day of class, I decided to come sit by her. As I sat down, I farted. It was mortifying at the time (I used to be really uncomfortable with bodily function humor...but now I think farts are funny. Yes, I'm like 12 years old on the inside...). I think it's hilarious now.
2. What is the best book you've ever read and why?
I love Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, but I think my all-time favorite book (aside from anything Harry Potter) is The Giver by Lois Lowry. Yes, it is a book for children, but I find it to be so poignant and striking. I loved it as a child, but have a much deeper love for it now. The plot is fascinating, and the characters are rich and powerful.
3. Which one of your family members are you the most like?
I'm not really sure. I don't think I'm like many people in my family - not in a bad way, though. I used to be a lot like my mom, but not as much as I've become an adult. I think I have pieces of all my family members, as well as things that are uniquely mine. For instance, I'm musical and smart like my dad, I'm caring and compassionate like my mom, and I'm passionate and feisty like my brother.
4. What's the best trip you've ever taken?
This is a tough one! I think the best trip I've ever taken was this past summer, to Yellowstone. I went with Kevin's mom, dad, and one of his three brothers. Now, I'm a self-proclaimed "inside girl," and spending lots of time outdoors is reallllly not my thing, so when we had the opportunity to go camping in Yellowstone, I was a little hesitant. However, I decided to go for it (plus, I love Kevin's family and have always wanted to go on a trip with them!) and be a trooper. It wound up being the coolest trip. We drove from Minnesota to Yellowstone in an RV all together, and then traveled around the park for a week. It was so amazing to see all of the geological features and the wildlife. I learned so much on the trip and we all had such an amazing time together. Also, I developed this "persona" while we were in Yellowstone, called Junior Ranger Brynn, and I would describe in my own way what all the wildlife and geographical features were about. It started out as a mockery of the Neature videos, and was pretty ridiculous, but Kevin recorded me while we were out touring the park and I made a Junior Ranger Brynn video when we got home. It's become a bit of a joke in the family since then :) [I uploaded it in case you want to see me making a fool of myself and talking in my silly Junior Ranger Brynn way. It's super crappy quality, too...]
5. Worst fashion trend? Best fashion trend?
I think I've answered these before in Inge's questions. My least favorite fashion trend right now is tribal prints (followed by super short shorts that show butt cheeks, crop tops, and high-low hems). My favorite fashion trend currently is probably lace, but I also really like colorful blazers and popover shirts.
My questions for nominees...
1. What do you like to do in your free time?
2. If you could have a dinner party with any three famous people (dead or alive), who would they be and why?
3. What is your favorite household chore and why?
4. What's your favorite item of clothing that you currently own?
5. When you're on a road trip, what is your go-to music?
I'm nominating...
